In my EDUC 410 class, (or Creative Classroom), we were asked what special talent or hobby we would incorporate in our classroom. As people were giving examples, I could not think of any talent, hobby, or special interest I would bring to my class. I drew a blank. I started to feel insecure of my abilities to be a teacher. So I began to ask those close to me the qualities that would make me a good teacher. One friend told me my abilities to relate to others and listen makes me special. I am good at art and love music. Right there could be three themes of my classroom. I was starting to feel better but continued my search. I was talking to my mom and we talked about my love of shopping. This could be used to create a class store or in any lesson for any subject. Shopping could apply to math, using multiplication, division, addition and subtraction to find totals, in science dealing with animals and how to care for them (what items you may need to buy for a certain animal). My insecurity has now turned to awareness of how a little fun act could be turned into a classroom lesson or theme.
The tough questions that make you look inside yourself allow each person to find their best qualities on the inside.
